This page lists every cookie and browser-storage item PardyTime uses, what it does, and how long it lives. Nothing optional is stored or loaded until you ask for it, and we show no ads.
Cookies
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
pt_session | Keeps you signed in. Stores a reference to your session; the cookie is HttpOnly, so scripts on the page cannot read it, and in production it is only ever sent over HTTPS. | 30 days from sign-in | Strictly necessary (first-party) |
pt_oauth | Set only while you are signing in with Google, and deleted as soon as you return. It holds the one-time values that prove the sign-in you complete is the one you started. | 10 minutes | Strictly necessary (first-party) |
NEXT_LOCALE | Set only when you choose a language, to remember it. Until then we follow your browser's language setting and store nothing. An address starting /de/ or /es/ also sets the page language. | 1 year | Preference |
__stripe_mid, __stripe_sid | Set by Stripe, our payment provider, only once you open the payment form to buy Plus. Stripe uses them to prevent fraud. | 1 year and 30 minutes | Strictly necessary (Stripe) |
ph_<project>_posthog | Set only if you accept analytics cookies. A random analytics ID and the current visit, so PostHog counts your visits as one visitor and, once you sign in, links them to your account. A copy is kept in local storage. | 1 year | Analytics (with consent) |
Local, session and IndexedDB storage
| Key | Purpose | Type |
|---|---|---|
pardytime:guest-id | A random ID made in your browser when you join a game without an account, so the game recognises you across reloads. Not linked to any identity unless you sign in. | Strictly necessary |
pardytime:guest-avatar | The avatar you picked when joining as a guest. | Preference |
pardytime:join-profile | The name and avatar you last joined a game with, so the next join is filled in for you. | Preference |
pardytime:join-session | The last game you joined, so you can get back in after closing the tab. | Strictly necessary |
pardytime:live-join (session storage) | Marks that this tab is in a live game, so a reload puts you straight back in. Gone when the tab closes. | Strictly necessary |
pardytime:host-settings-v2 | Your game settings as a host, used as the next game's defaults. | Preference |
pardytime:pixel-guide-seen | Remembers that the Pixelated editor has shown you how the game works, so it doesn't open by itself again. | Preference |
pardytime:rules-seen:<game> | Remembers which games' lobbies have shown you how to play, so their rules don't open by themselves again. | Preference |
pardytime:player-survey-at | When this device was last asked how a game went, so players are asked at most once every two weeks. | Preference |
pardytime-analytics-consent, __ph_opt_in_out_<project> | Your answer to the analytics cookies question, so it is asked once. | Preference |
pardytime-analytics-ignore | Set when you switch off visit counting below (and on our own devices when staff open the admin pages), so nothing is sent to PostHog from this browser. | Preference |
pardytime (IndexedDB), creator draft | The game you are making on the create page before it's saved to an account: its format, text, title and description, never images. Kept in this browser only, so closing the tab or signing up doesn't lose it, and deleted once it's saved. | Strictly necessary (first-party) |
Advertising
PardyTime does not show ads. We set no advertising cookies and load no ad or cross-site tracking scripts.
Analytics
We use PostHog for analytics and run no session replay.
- Site visits: the pages viewed, where visitors came from, what they click, how far they scroll and where they move on the page (for heatmaps), and their browser, device type and location. Your browser sends each event to our own server, which passes it to PostHog with your IP address and browser's user agent. Without analytics cookies, PostHog uses those only to tell visitors apart within a day, stores nothing in your browser and does not keep them.
- Analytics cookies, only if you accept them: PostHog keeps a random ID in your browser, so your visits count as one visitor and, once you sign in, link to your account. Change your answer below at any time.
- Product analytics: what signed-in accounts do in PardyTime, such as games made and played and upgrades, sent from our servers. You can turn it off under Settings, Preferences. The privacy policy lists exactly what it receives.
Loaded only when you ask
These come from other companies, so they load only after you act, and their own cookies and privacy policies apply from then on:
- Stripe, when you open the payment form or go to a Stripe checkout page.
- YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com), when you tap Play on a video clue.
- Cloudflare Turnstile, the check against automated sign-ups, on the sign-in page.
Consent
Under the EU ePrivacy Directive, storing or reading information on your device generally requires prior consent, except where the storage is strictly necessary to deliver a service you have requested, or where it merely remembers a preference you actively set. Everything above falls into those categories except PostHog's analytics cookie, which is why we ask before setting it and count visits without it until you accept. See the privacy policy for how we use personal data and the providers involved.
Clearing storage
You can clear all of the above at any time from your browser's site data settings. Doing so will sign you out and reset your preferences.
